SUMMER
Wednesday, September 8, 2004 — It's that time again - the annual Millsberry Gazette "Back to School" issue!
Summer has ended, and it's now time for all kids in Millsberry to head back to Millsberry Academy. Don't fret, though - the Millsberry Gazette has been informed that the 2004-2005 school year should be exciting! For example, the Science Department has several field trips planned for various grades during the year, which will allow everyone to study frogs and their life cycle, as well as the fish and vegetation, by the Pond in Peabody Park.
Now that school is back in session, Sheriff Crow is advising drivers that they must be particularly mindful of students traveling to and from the Academy on foot, by bicycle, and by bus. The school day begins at 8:00 and ends at 3:00. This year's school bus schedule: Westridge at 7:17am, Metro Park at 7:22am, Lakeview at 7:28am, Golden Valley at 7:34am, and Ravenwood at 7:41am. The bus will reach school at approximately 7:45am, leaving students about fifteen minutes to greet their friends and stop by their lockers before class.
The Millsberry School Board has scheduled an excellent cafeteria menu for students who'll be returning this year. Each day students will be able to choose from one of four pre-planned trays, which will offer a good selection of healthy, tasty meals. Additionally, the Academy cafeteria plans to post a menu on the wall so that students can plan ahead and choose which days they would like to eat in the cafeteria, and when they would prefer to bring their own lunches.
In view of the success of last year's Read-a-thon, Mrs. Fiddle, the school librarian, has requested that Academy families take note of the school library's new policies. First, students may borrow only one book at a time, and must return that book before they can check out another. Second, students may only checkout up to three books per day. This should ensure that everyone finds a good selection readily available.
For those interested in intramural athletics, students are advised to contact Coach Danner as soon as possible. Places are open on all the teams, and try-outs will be held in the Academy gymnasium after school during the first and second weeks of the semester.
Lastly, for those interested in after-school clubs, students should visit the office to obtain sign-up information.
