"MILLSBERRY ASTRONOMY CHALLENGE" ANNOUNCED

News sci comp 1 v1

Friday, November 19, 2004 — As part of their effort to increase local interest in the field of astronomy, the Millsberry Astronomy Society proudly announced today that it will be hosting the "Millsberry Astronomy Challenge," an astronomy trivia event that will be open to all students of Millsberry Academy. Astronomy Society supporter, Cinnamon Toast Crunch® breakfast cereal, will be sponsoring the educational event.

According to Astronomy Society president James Astrid, anyone who proves their astronomy expertise by earning a score of 100% on the challenge trivia quiz will be awarded their very own specially colored lab coat, lab goggles, and box of Cinnamon Toast Crunch cereal (generously provided by the event sponsor). Additionally, those with perfect scores will receive exclusive (and secret) access to a brand new space game that's being offered by the Astronomy Society!

Mr. Astrid encouraged students interested in participating in the Millsberry Astronomy Challenge to visit the school library to study up on the subject of astronomy. "Students needing help should contact Mrs. Fiddle, the school librarian, who tells us that she is more than happy to help everyone find the astronomy resources they will need to successfully complete the challenge," stated Mr. Astrid.

"Students can take the Astronomy Challenge anytime during the next three weeks by simply visiting Mr. Fort's science lab to pick up the exam. We sincerely believe that every student in Millsberry can easily learn what they need to know about the skies above us to successfully complete the event," Mr. Astrid happily explained. Further, he noted, "for those who don't get a perfect score on their first try, don't fret - everyone has an unlimited number of attempts. So if you happen to find yourself stumped by a question, just head back to the Academy library. All the questions on the exam are based upon information that's in the libr ary's astronomy books."

Several teachers, including Mrs. Seashore (and Mr. Fort, of course) are offering extra credit to any student who attends class wearing the lab coat and goggles that they've won from the competition. Also, Mrs. Fiddle has asked the principal to extend the Academy's library hours during the next few weeks, so that students have more time to study after class.

The Millsberry Gazette wishes everyone the best of lucky in the fun and educational event!
